Shear
Newest Version of Shears:
These shears are designed to break the nut shell off and give you chunkier nutmeats. They’re made of steel and can easily cut through the shells, but they’re sharp, so use caution when handling them. They can cut almost anything except metal.
We do not manufacture the shears ourselves; they are primarily made for cutting threads and fine wires. Most of our customers have minimal or no issues with them and are very happy with their performance. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a warranty as the manufacturer doesn’t provide one for us.

Additional Tips:
Avoid twisting your hand while snipping, as twisting could damage the shears. Keep your hand straight for smooth cutting.
If your walnuts are proving tough to crack, try soaking them for 3-4 days to allow moisture to soften the shells. Depending on shell thickness, this could take up to 7-8 days. Once soaked, let the nuts dry to the touch before cracking.
After two weeks of being out of the hull, walnuts are at their best stage for cracking, and the soaking process helps replicate that condition.
Make sure to check out all our videos and written guides on nut preparation to ensure the best results. Also, don’t forget to keep grease on the camshaft and upper ram every few buckets for optimal performance.

Grandpa's Goody Getter
I am pasting here for more information. It might help you some. I suggest you watch the video about how to use shear properly. Link: https://www.grandpasgoodygetter.com/pages/how-to-use-shear-properly https://www.grandpasgoodygetter.com/pages/broken-shears-what-to-do https://www.grandpasgoodygetter.com/pages/shears-on-walnut-nut-shells https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPAMJxfTD00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUOPhC0PrDA Also try to avoid twisting your hand to snip. If you twist your hand, it might break off . Just keep straight while you snip the shells. The problem is your nuts might be too hard to crack. Try this method. However, you need to soak them for at least 3 or 4 days to let the moisture penetrate the shell and soften the nutmeats. It can take as much as 7 or 8 days according to how thick the shell is. Then just let them dry to the touch and go ahead and get cracking. When the nuts have been out of the hull for about two weeks they are at their best stage for cracking and the soaking simply duplicates that condition. Please watch our videos and written info on nut preparation. Maybe a good idea to view all of our helpful videos. You are going to like the results when you take these steps. Also important to keep grease on cam shaft and upper ram every few buckets.

Look at the instructions before using the shears
I failed to look at the online instructions about how to use the shears correctly and I overtaxed my first pair and broke them. Dennis sent me links to a video and some slides (https://www.grandpasgoodygetter.com/pages/how-to-use-shear-properly , https://www.grandpasgoodygetter.com/pages/shears-on-walnut-nut-shells ) . I looked at them prior to using my second set of shears and they worked a lot better for me!

Shear (was a gift)
Dear Dennis, I gave the Goody Getter and the Shear to my daughter who lives far away. I haven't used the products, but she is very grateful for her "industrial strength" walnut cracker. I've had no report on the Shear. Sorry, I can't speak about them.
